PHP 8 Reminder - g-Fonts - GDPR
Hello and good morning,
I wish you a great start to the week!
To counter rising hecticness, I am reaching out today with my preliminary year-end newsletter on current website topics.
PHP 7 will be switched off at Host Europe on 14.11.2022 (next Monday) switched off
Due to the end of the official security support for PHP 7.4, some web hosts are already forcing the switch to PHP 8 forced.
IONOS and Strato customers will be charged an avoidable additional fee - the Extended Support for PHP 7.4. Once activated, this must be cancelled separately.
Please check the PHP version active in your hosting account and your invoices for this generally unnecessary fee.
Your website has problems with PHP 8.1 or would you like me to carry out the switch for you? Simply reply to this email.
The effort required for the switch rarely exceeds a 30 min slot provided no antique software is in use.
Google Fonts Cease-and-Desist Letters - GDPR Checks Reloaded
Tens to hundreds of thousands of cease-and-desist letters over the past few weeks have made it clear that GDPR compliance still needs improvement on the majority of websites.
The mass Google Fonts cease-and-desist letters with >= 170 € demand for payment can be ignored as abusive (source).
The reported privacy violations should, of course, still be fixed promptly.
From 39 € I can help with local font integration and make sure that no third-party resources are loaded without consent anymore.
Cookie banners and content blockers (e. g. for Google Maps, Analytics, YouTube, iframes, widgets or similar) can be set up for an additional 30-75 min.
If you are unsure whether privacy measures are required on your website, feel free to send me the URL for a free quick check.
Kind regards
Pascal Lohmann
